Opatija is a lively and popular tourist destination which offers sandy beaches and some of the most stunning coastal views in Croatia, evident while strolling along its lovely seaside promenade Lungomare.
The town’s streets and pristine coastline are lined with bright and colourful pastel-coloured buildings, restaurants, bars, cafés and hotels.
If your plan is to go sightseeing, be sure to visit Opatija’s famous picture-postcard statue the Maiden with the Seagull, situated beside Juraj Šporer Art Pavilion. Other must-see sights are the Old City and the 14th-century Abbey of Saint James.

It’s a beautiful city with lots of Austrian style influenced buildings. I would not recommend it during the summer because for swimming in the sea it is not the best place to go to, as there are not really nice beaches. But for off season it is very nice.

Tourist Hotspot so most cafés/restaurants/bars are overpriced, often ridiculously so for the level of service. Also too crowded, even in off season. One exception: Pizzeria Roko, go eat there!

Well Opatia is an old tourist town.
Well Opatia is an old tourist town. It does show its age and set of problems like all tourist towns. But still retains its charm and different eras that build it.
A wonderful place to walk enjoy coffee on some terrace or a perfect sea food meal.
A smart home base point for wider exploration of Kvarner region, its hills and mountains as its islands.

Opatija is the Monaco of Isrtria.
Opatija is the Monaco of Isrtria. Beutiful city with nice beaches. It worth to visit Medveja beach, and Moscenicka Draga beach as well, the water is more clean than the main beaches in Opatija.
For food and beverage, I suggest to try Cafe Imperial, Roko, but the absolut winner is Valle Losca Tavern, where you can have the most delicious dinner in Opatija. Both of them, they need reservation!
If you are looking for an active nightlife with parties, I do not recommend, there was only two bars, Summer Garden (close at 12PM, 1AM on Friday Saturday), and Colosseum Beach Bar, but they also close at 1AM. Pula, Crikvenica, or Porec can be better options for partying.

The city is nice, has some old houses as well as modern hotels, there are palm trees, rosemary and bayleaf bushes as fences.
A lot of tourist go there, so the local business owners speak at least English.
Since the seaside is made of big rocks, there are only created beaches which are crowded, but the little bays are better, just wear beach loafers because of the rocks and sea urchins. There is a small sandy beach for kids at the north end of Plaža Slatina.
There are no simple just-buy-and-go streetfood options, only sit-down-and-order places (except if you want popcorn, fried corn or ice cream), which is time consuming and you have to prepare in advance if you are with kids.
The sea water is clear, good for snorkeling, and there are glass bottom boats to see the fishes.

Opatija is the jewel of the Adriatic coast!!
Opatija is the jewel of the Adriatic coast!! Many hotels are more than 100 years old and are marvel on their own! We could wholeheartedly recommend Opatija to anyone who likes good old charm and high end quality hotels with price marks less than many other hotels in Europe!!
A rarely give 10 points to any service, but this apartment is simply the best where I've ever been in Croatia. The hosts are kind, helpful, always ready to help, but don't bother you, if you don't want. We have spent one week at the upstairs apartment there, it is fully equipped (AC, washing machine, hair drier, dishwasher, vacuum cleaner, satellite tv), has plenty of place, a nice view to the Sea, large balcony, and beautiful garden. If you visit them, say hello to Grisa, the cutest dog in Opatija!
The hotel location is fantastic. The balcony allowed for hours of soaking up the atmosphere of watching people walking around the promenade or relaxing looking out over the beautiful Adriatic.
I was particularly impressed with the duty clerk who went out of her way to make our stay hassle free. She was very friendly and able to make decisions herself.
On site parking took away one of the most frustrating aspects of staying in the centre of Opatija.
Very good location, right in the center of Opatija. Few minutes walk to the beach (for example Lido beach). The staff was really exceptional and helpful. The onsite restaurant and cafeteria is a big plus. Also whenever there is bad weather you can use the spa with the discount voucher you receive upon arrival. On-site parking for 20/euros per night for the hotel guests which is an advantage as its quite hard to find a good parking spot in Opatija.
If you're visiting Opatija for a short trip or longer stay consider this apartment. It has everything you need and more. The hosts are amazing, nice and really helpful! The apartment has its own parking, modern equiped and as shown in the pictures. Don't get me started on the heated floors in the bathroom... It was amazing and the best trip to Opatija. We suggest your stay here. You won't be dissapointed!
Nice apartment with everything you need, full kitchen equipment. Amazing view from the balcony. Located very close to the center and beach.
Nice and very frendly hosts - Karmen and Dario. They explain you everything you need to know about Opatija, parking and other destinations. Thank you for the amazing hospitality! We really enjoy staying in these apartment! :)
Absolutely cozy apartment, nicely renovated in vintage style. Our host Mladen was very friendly and offered us parking opportunity, which is an absolute jackpot in Opatija. The seaside is just a couple of stairs and steps distance from the door. We were only there for a winter weekend, but would be also ideal for a summer vacation for 2.
We had all meals included with drinks. Delicious buffet for all meals with plenty options: fish, meat, vegetables, fruits, cakes...
Gorgeous view on the sea from room and pool.
Peaceful area around hotel, perfect place to take good rest.
New hotel, opened in 2017.
2 km far away from Opatija, connected with Lungomare promenade by the sea.
This hotel is absolutely amazing. Secluded in the cove it offers a stunning view from the room (and from the bed) and peaceful stay. We were here in the off season but we still manage to soak up sun in the balcony of our room. The staff is extremely professional and friendly and everything is super clean.
This is a lovely hotel full of friendly staff that will great u and take care of you from start to finish,
Me and my wife had a great time and will never forget our stay at this hotel,
I wish to thank nicole ,
Stefano and hrvoje who treated us like kings and queens
View is spectacular
Spacious apartmamet, everything what is needed was there. Parking arranged by the host, considering Opatija city planning it was close and convenient. 3 mins away from seaside beach and walking promenade. Outside table and chairs for having breakfast/dinner outside or just to chill.
The hotel in general was fantastic, with a very good and abundant breakfast, parking was no problem, the only problem was that to get to the wing of Adriatica ll where we were allocated on the fifth floor, we had to carry our heavy luggage up some steps before reaching the elevator.
I really liked everything in this superb hotel, staff was really nice. Room with a sea view was amazing. Only "bad thing" is finding a parking space. if they are charging for a hotel parking 15€ or 20€ a day, there should be a free parking spot at all times.
The Villa is in one of the best locations of Opatija, directly opposite the Park centar and next to the Bristol Hotel. The room was new, comfortable and very clean. We had a very nice welcome from the host and uncomplicated parking around the corner.
Such a beautiful hotel right on the water, and close to excellent walking routes and trails. The restaurants nearby are exceptional and the city, a delight. Love Croatia!! Highly recommend anyone to come and stay here
Hotel had free parking which in this area is very important, nowhere else to park. Also had free breakfast which was great. Rooms were fine with a beautiful view of the water.
Location on the water is amazing. Lovely beach at the foot of the hotel. Restaurant views are wonderful. Parking available. Perfect stay for our group of four.
Ladies helping with breakfast. Delicious. Wonderful piano player at breakfast.
Beautiful view from room and hotel.
All Wonderful staff, especially Paula.
